Appalachian Trail
The Appalachian Trail offers unparalleled opportunities to explore, experience and connect with nature. It is the nation's longest marked footpath, at approximately 2,175 miles and the areas it traverses House more than 2,000 occurrences of rare,threatened, endangered, and sensitive plant and animal species. It crosses six national parks, traverses eight national forests and touches 14 states. It runs from Maine to Georgia.

Claytor Lake
Thousands of years before European pioneers started streaming down the valley in the mid-1700s, old Rt. 11 was a well-traveled hunting and raiding route used by southern Cherokee and Catawba tribes, as well as members of the northern Iroquois Confederacy of Five Nations. A mystic German sect called the Ephrata Brethren (later to be known as Dunkards) decided the land now covered by Claytor Lake was the place they wanted to stop. When the New River was dammed to form Claytor Lake for the generating of electric power in 1939, the community known as Dunkard's Bottom was swallowed by the rising waters. The 4,475-acre impoundment of the New River lies south of Radford and east of Pulaski in Pulaski County, an easy jump from Interstate 81.

Fine Arts Center for the NRV
The Fine Arts Center for the New River Valley strives to recognize, encourage, and support original work by area artists, craftspeople and musicians. The center is a full service regional art center featuring rotating exhibitions, youth and adult classes, in-school service programs, concerts, performances, lectures and special events. The primary location at 21 West Main Street includes a gallery with monthly exhibitions, a gift shop featuring the work of regional artisans, class space, and offices.

Huckleberry Trail
The Huckleberry Trail is an asphalt-paved bike/pedestrian path. The trail currently runs from the Blacksburg library to the New River Mall. There are distance markers every half mile. At 2.83 miles it crosses the road to Warm Hearth, at 3.43 miles it crosses Hightop, and at 3.90 it crosses Merimac. The total distance from the library to the mall is 5.762 miles.

New River Trail
New River Trail is minutes from Claytor Lake State Park. This unique park features 57 miles of continuous trail. The park parallels 39 miles of the New River, which is one of the world's oldest rivers and among a handful of rivers flowing north New River Trail State Park has been designated an official National Recreation Trail by the U. S. Department of the Interior.

Skyline Drive
Gazing across the horizon from the peaks of Shenandoah National Park it’s hard to believe you are just 75 miles from the bustle of our nation’s capital. Skyline Drive runs 105 miles along the crest of the mountains past spectacular vistas. It is part of the Blue Ridge Parkway. The Appalachian Trail runs along much of the Sheanadoah National Park.
